Cairns Locals Standing Up for Redlynch Valley

Redlynch Valley Action Inc. is a community organisation that protects our community and environment from unsustainable development.

Recent development approvals for Redlynch Valley have shocked residents and the wider Cairns community. These developments include the extension of the Boral quarry, which took place behind closed doors, and the proposed industrial estate, which has been widely condemned by the public.

We are not anti-development. We appreciate the benefits that development brings to ourselves and the wider community however we believe it should:

  • Be conducted with transparency and procedural integrity;
  • Prioritise public good over private interests;
  • Not pose a risk to members of our community;
  • Not threaten our world-leading natural environment; and
  • Be justified in all the circumstances.
Elephant in the room

From time to time, Cairns Regional Council has come under fire for being too close to developers. Whether this criticism is warranted or not, it is hard to argue against increased scrutiny.
